Speidel -- A remarkable story of talented, very young, brave women. : Elizabeth, a first-time author, tells a remarkable story about her early one-season experience as a Bluebell Girl in Italy. Though she is writing this memoir almost 70 years later in her life, the detail is astounding. This is because she kept carefully recorded accounts in diaries of her months of learning dance routines through excruciatingly hard workouts and performances to become a "real" Bluebell Girl. The calm fortitude she showed at such a tender age, away from the support of her family in England, and despite setbacks and daunting personal relationships, makes for a compelling read. It is a quick read and makes you realize both how much the world has changed, but how much being a 20 year old woman and trying to figure out how to navigate the world and what you want out of life hasn't changed! Elizabeth takes you on her journey to become a skilled enough dancer to be chosen to be a Bluebell. Her dance company tours around Europe performing in less than ideal conditions.
